145 years the Lacerda Elevator
With 145 years the Lacerda Elevator is the first urban
elevator in the world. On December 8, 1873, when it was inaugurated, it was the
highest in the world, at 63 meters. Located in the city of Salvador, Bahia, it
serves the public transport function between the Cairu Square in the Lower City
and the Tomé de Sousa Square in the Upper City.
